These are practices that organizations should have in place to utilize technologyeffectively. If your organization is beginning to work on a technology strategy,reviewing this document is a good place to start.

Organization
will have a technology strategy plan that is based on mission and current campaigns; will provide access to training in use of technology and list technical skills in job descriptions and position announcements; accepts staff/user feedback on how technology is used; and will have one person on staff who is responsible for systems

Hardware
If an organization has more than two computers they should be on a Local Area Network (LAN). Printers are shared over the LAN. Organization should have only one Internet connection and shared over the LAN. Organization should have checked all hardware for Y2K compliance.

Software
Every Organization should have the following types of software applicationsand be standardized (everyone uses same version): Database Word Processing Desktop Publishing Anti-Virus (that can be updated routinely) Software is obtained by discount or donation.Important computer files are backed up routinely.

Communications
Organization should have broadcast fax capabilities. Organization has some form of phone answering system in place. Staff has individual e-mail accounts that they can access regularly Staff understands how to send and receive e-mail attachments All relevant contact information is collected from members including e-mail
