Independent Heights Welfare Rights Union, Texas

Another grassroots welfare rights organization is the Independent Heights Welfare Rights Union, (IHWRO). Their leader is Flora Punch. The group is currently organizing a conference in which the community will receive information on the changes in the welfare program. It is planned for August 2, 1997. IHWRO meets once every two months and some meetings are held at the public housing projects.

IHWRO also assists members with individual welfare problems. They do one-on-one advocacy. Their address is 709 Parker Rd., Houston, Texas 77076, tel.713-699-0362.
