BUREAUCRATIC
"BULL"oney

At a hearing in front of the Montana State Legislative Committee on Children and
Families, legislators directed the Department of Health and Human Services to meet with our members and to respond to our questions on sanctions.

The department's response during that meeting was defensive.  Hank Hudson, the
Director of Child and Family Services, in an
effort to intimidate and harass low-income
citizens,  demanded that welfare recipients sign a release of information in order to be able to testify in front of the legislature or at public hearings.  This release means that members files could  be scrutinized and personal information could be used against them while they were
testifying.

WEEL member, Rebecca Moog answered this "demand " saying,  NO WAY!!  As citizens in a free country, we have a right to exercise our First Amendment rights of free speech.

Thumbs down and shame on you Hank
Hudson!!  Bad enough that unnecessary sanctions are causing families to suffer.  WEEL recognizes your intimidation and harassment of our
members as another blatant abuse of your power as a public official.
